i've wanted to read the color purple since high school and only just got around to it. it's just as sad and just as inspirational and i thought it would be. i have to admit that it was a bit difficult to really get into at first. it wasn't much of a page-turner for me, but rather a slower-paced, heart-wrenching story that makes you see the world just a little differently every time you read it. this may sound silly, but what helped it really come alive was reading it aloud. nicolaus was pretty amused by this. it just flowed better when i spoke it. alice walker really did create a classic. my favorite thing she did was make the characters come to life - they felt so real. i think this is a book everyone should experience at least once in their life.
